The Tunnel (Spanish: El túnel) is a dark, psychological novel written by Argentine writer Ernesto Sabato about a deranged porteño painter, Juan Pablo Castel, and his obsession with a woman. The story's title refers to the symbol for Castel's emotional and physical isolation from society, which becomes increasingly apparent as Castel proceeds to tell from his jail cell the series of events that enabled him to murder the only person capable of understanding him. Marked by its existential themes, El Túnel received enthusiastic support from Albert Camus and Graham Greene following its publication in 1948.

Pablo Hernández Balaguer. Musicólogo y compositor. Fue director del Archivo Provincial de Música de Santiago de Cuba, e investigó profusamente sobre la historia de la música cubana y en especial la concerniente a Esteban Salas y a los archivos de La Catedral de Santiago de Cuba.

De la “Aclaración”:

El presente trabajo fue publicado originalmente como parte de la secuencia INTRODUCCION A CUBA, de la Sección de Arte y Literatura de la Revista Bohemia, y subdividido en tres partes (números de 21 y 28 de agosto, y 4 de septiembre), constituyendo el capitulo dedicado a la música. Pero, dado que el tercer articulo: Evolución del Nacionalismo. Las Nuevas Orientaciones. Siglo XX, apareció en la mencionada Sección de la revista Bohemia con sensibles modificaciones (en las que no tuvo el autor), aprovechamos esta nueva publicación para darlo, en lo esencial, tal como fue escrito originalmente.

Most travelers want to know something about the history of the places they visit. This booklet aims to tell them a little about the history of Barbados. If I seem to have devoted a disproportionate amount of space to the background to English settlement in the West Indies, it is because I believe the reader will find it interesting. On the other hand, I make no excuse for having said so little of the important developments of the last thirty years. John Collier (May 4, 1884 - May 8, 1968) was an American social reformer and Native American advocate. He served as Commissioner for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the President Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, from 1933-1945. He is considered chiefly responsible for the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, which he intended to correct some of the problems in federal policy toward Native Americans. It was considered to aid in ending the loss of reservations lands held by Indians, and making some progress for enabling tribal nations to re-institute self-government.

Alexander O'Reilly was born in Dublin in the Kingdom of Ireland in 1722. Like many so-called "Wild Geese" of his generation, he left Ireland to serve in foreign, Catholic armies.

O´Reilly stayed acting for the Conde de Ricla, twice a Grandee of Spain, in Hannah…, Cuba, as his adjutant and second-in-command. While in Havana, Ricla and O'Reilly received the city back from the British forces that had besieged and occupied it at the end of the Seven Years' War.[3] O'Reilly analyzed what had gone wrong with the defenses of Havana during the successful British siege in 1762, and recommended sweeping reforms to improve the fortifications, training, practices, and troop organizations, which were quickly approved by the Spanish Crown. With the help of military engineer of the Royal Army, Silvestre de la Abarca, the works of the strategic fortress of La Cabaña was undertaken.

The study reported here is modest, both in scope and in intent. Working from aggregate data and from survey materials, we have attempted to shed some light on the Cuban refugees who entered the United States during the four years from the fall of Batista at the end of 1958 until the discontinuation of regularly scheduled air flights from Cuba to Miami during the missle crisis of October 1962.

The publication in 1958 of my book La Economía del Tráfico Marítimo Internacional de Cuba was the direct result of the circumstances that for two years I held a position in a Cuban shipping firm which enabled me to acquire first-hand knowledge of the industry. The economic interpretation of this information, in which I was aided by a number of specialists, was the basis of this study.
