Geographer and planner, and one who inaugurated the systematic planning which became the first foundation for Puerto Rico’s present development, Earl Parker Hanson is currently consultant to the Department of State of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and to the United States Peace Corps. He is the author or co-author of some fourteen books and pamphlets, including Journey to Manaos; Chile, Land of Progress; New Worlds Emerging; The Amazon, A New Frontier?; and Puerto Rico, Land of Wonders. He was in 1951 elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; he has been knighted by Liberia and Iceland.
