This biography is drawn largely from interviews and conversations. There are many whom I would like to thank for their patience with questions, and their helpfulness. But the essence of Fanon remains controversy, so that it would be unfair to link individual names with the subjective conclusions of the work. Still, I will mention my editors, especially Lois Silverman, whose criticisms prevented me from publishing an encyclopedia of all that was not relevant to Fanon.
