A history of Bonaire, extracted from Dr. Hartog's five-volume History of the Netherlands Antilles. It covers the history from European discovery just one year after North America, Indian population, Spanish era (1499-1623), occupation by Dutch in 1636, confusion and occupations until Dutch rule is renewed in 1816, abolishment of slavery in 1863, telegraph and telephone, 1932 hurricane strike, World War II internment camp, autonomy in 1951, to the opening of hotels and onset of modern economic times. Chapter 8 is a chronology from 1499 to 1974. Numerous photographs, which do not necessarily relate to adjacent text.
