The Workers' Liberation Front (Dutch: Arbeiders Bevrijdingsfront, Papiamento: Frente Obrero Liberashon, FOL), officially the 30th of May Workers' Liberation Front Party:

The party was founded in 1969 and named after the riots/uprising of 30 May. When Wilson Godett and Stanley Brown were elected in the Estates of the Netherlands Antilles, they were still in jail for their connections with the riots; but their upcoming membership in the Estates set them free.[1] During the 2002 and 2006 elections respectively, the party won 5 and 2 of the 14 Curaçao-seats in the 22 seat Estates of the Netherlands Antilles,[4][5] but during the 2010 election the party failed to obtain any seats.[6]

René Antonio Römer (2 July 1929, Willemstad, Curaçao – 25 February 2003, Curaçao)[1] was Governor of the Netherlands Antilles from 1983 to 1989. He was also a professor of sociology at the University of the Netherlands Antilles and at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

René Antonio Römer had an incredibly varied career, working in the areas of civil service, policy making, advising, writing, and education. He studied Political and Social Sciences at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In 1977 he obtained his doctorate in the Netherlands from the Rijksuniversiteit, the Royal University of Leiden, after defending his dissertation Een volk op weg, “A People in the Making”. The published version has become a standard reference: Een volk op weg; un pueblo na kaminda, a title that makes visible one of the realities of the Curaçaoan scholar: living in a foreign scholarly tradition while creating a more indigenous framework for understanding ourselves. The title is the original Dutch of the dissertation, and its Papiamentu translation. Whereas this work is seen as one of his strongest contributions to the sociology of Curaçao, his list of publications includes over 100 books, articles, and papers on Curaçao, the Netherlands Antilles, and Dutch Antillean relations

Me place presentar mi segundo libro relacionado con la enseñanza en las Antillas del idioma español. Este va destinado a las escuelas del M.U.L.O. superior para ser usado como material de lectura a partir de la séptima u octava clase hasta la décima inclusive. También se considera apto para los tres primeros años de escuela secundaria. Está compuesto de ocho cuentos sobre diversos temas, con preferencia de animales, casi todos ambientados en la isla de Curaçao, con sus resabios de moraleja en algunos, y por una especie de biografía novelada de uno de los más grandes hombres de la historia de la Independencia Hispano-americana, Luis Brión.

Met belangstelling heb ik de verhalen van Sra. Penón de Abbad doorgelezen. Het betreft verhalen, die helemaal in de sfeer liggen van het Antilliaanse kind en geschreven door iemand die een bijzondere gave heeft on wat zij om haar heen ziet prachtig op papier weer te geven in “un español castizo”. Aangezien wij op dit gebied heel weinig bezitten vond ik dit een unicum en heb ik mij meteen aangeboden om de leesstukjes te annoteren, voor een beter begrip ervan. I have read with interest the stories of Sra. Penon de Abbad. These are stories that are completely in the atmosphere of the Antillean child and written by someone who has a special gift for beautifully depicting what she sees around her on paper in “un español castizo”. Since we have very little in this area, I thought this was unique and immediately offered to annotate the reading pieces for a better understanding. I therefore hope that the highest classes of the mulo schools and the third classes of the H.B.S. will use this booklet eagerly and read it with as much enthusiasm as I did. ~ Frank Davelaar (Spanish teacher; actor and director from Curaçao).

Dr. Jaap van Soest was attached to the History Department of the University of the Netherlands Antilles at Curaçao. The following was machine-translated from Jaap van Soest Data Collection, University of Curaçao: “Between 1972 and 1980 I collected the research data that was processed in Oil as water: The Curacao economy in the first half of the twentieth century (Curacao 1976, Zutphen 1977), in Trustee of the Netherlands Antilles. A history of money, banking and the economy with special reference to the central Bank of the Netherlands Antilles 1828 – 6 February – 1978 (Curacao 1978, Zutphen 1978), and in smaller publications and articles. This data contained many figures, whether or not in series. They mainly concerned the period 1828 -1955; only a few reached beyond those limits. At a time when few researchers used computers, all those numbers were written down manually - a monk's work that can only be compared with the work that came after the turn of the century was necessary to convert all those notes into a digitally accessible form. In total, in this collection now contains 178 tables with a total of 2091 series of numbers. Some series are special because of their length or detail, others show (sometimes large) gaps. The gaps may be due to lack of source material; in a series from 1830 to 1960, for example, no climate data are available for the period 1861-1894. There may also have been a change in the system of working or reporting, as is often the case with the banks. But gaps can also due to the limited time available for the study. In the latter case, thirty years later, no attempts were made to add the series to fill. I would like to invite every user of this material to complete it, so that gradually an increasing corpus of research data becomes available for general usage. With a view to such a future expansion, the tables with double numbers numbered. Unless otherwise stated, the figures are derived from annual reports, such as those published by the governor annually to the Minister of the Colonies (here referred to simply as Colonial Report, even though it was renamed later); appeared with the Colonial Report no statistical appendices between 1939 and 1943. Furthermore, there are the reports that local companies made for their owners locally or their superiors in the Netherlands. Insofar as these reports or figures are not publicly available, the rightholders receive permission to disclose. A detailed account of the sources can be found in Oil as water pags. 666-675, and additionally in Trustee pages XI and 374.

History of Saba

Saba is a Caribbean island which is the smallest special municipality (officially “public body”) of the Netherlands. It consists largely of the potentially active volcano Mount Scenery, which at 887 metres (2,910 ft) is the highest point of the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands. Sint Eustatius, also known locally as Statia is an island in the Eastern Caribbean. It is a special municipality (officially "public body") of the Netherlands. Sint Eustatius is immediately to the northwest of Saint Kitts, and to the southeast of Saba. The regional capital is Oranjestad. The island has an area of 21 square kilometres. ... "Of special interest to the historian of the Caribbean is the brief personal history of Daniel DeLeon. To the famous names of Marcus Garvey, George Padmore, or Frantz Fanon, as Caribbean born intellectuals or thinkers who have made important contributions to the history of ideas should certainly be added the name of Daniel DeLeon from Curacao. As I learned in the preparation of a term paper as a student many years ago Daniel DeLeon is the only American who, in the opinion of Nicolai Lenin, succeeded in making a positive contribution to the development of the ideas of Karl Marx. DeLeon is not known in Curacao today where his ideas on the industrial state would be so appropriate to the oil refinery worker who is being automated out of his job. He was not appreciated by the laboring man of the United States at the beginning of this century since his ideas were far too advanced for understanding, let alone utilization. The Emmanuels fill in the details of the personal life of this socialist thinker and substantiate the charges that he was mercilessly persecuted for his radical ideas."

Cornelis Christiaan Goslinga was the son of a shipping Commander Major Christiaan Goslinga (1877-1931) and his wife Catharina Verkade (1883-1960) and was born in Schiedam, Holland on 22 July 1910 and he had five siblings… Cornelis obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy whilst at the Nijmegen University, Netherlands (1956). In 1962 he was appointment assistant professor at University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. Then 1967 he was appointed visiting Professor of History at the University of Florida. He became Professor of History at the University of Florida. (…) He wrote some twelve books about Netherlands Antilles, History, Suriname, Slavery, Dutch Caribbean Area, West-Indische Compagnie (Netherlands), West Indies, and even Venezuelan Painting. In later years he was ably assisted by his daughter Marian, a budding historian. His 712 page book entitled "The Dutch in the Caribbean and in the Guianas 1680-1791" (1985) was written while he was emeritus professor of the University of Florida. It is a sequel to his "The Dutch in the Caribbean and on the Wild Coast 1580-1680" (1971). However, the subjects dealt with in his second volume are different and his source data has been criticized by some. In the earlier study he concentrated on the political and military developments caused by the Dutch penetration in the Americas.

Brenneker Paul, an enthusiastic Catholic priest of the Order of Dominicans, born on May 7, 1912 in Limburg, left at his death on February 7, 1996, a great cultural legacy: hundred publications, prints, photographs, poems, a large collection of audio recordings of singing and stories and thousands of artifacts, which he and his friend Elis Juliana from the fifties collected in Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba. Through publications as Lekete Minawa (1958) Benta - old songs-(1959), Curaçaoensia - ethnological notes on Curacao (1961), Brua (1966), and the ten parts Sambumbu (1969-1975) gives us access to direct sources for further research. To develop Guene example as a forerunner of Papiamentu, to folk religion and opposition to slavery. Or to gain inspiration for artistic work, such as musicians Angel Salsbach, Etzel Provence in the sixties, followed by Ronchi Matthew to Izaline Calister for job especially jazz. Brenneker combined his love for the local culture with charity.

Thus, in the early sixties subscription to Dutch book weeks space was reclaimed for Papiamentu literature by the then head of the Public Library, Daphne Labega. Pierre Lauffer, Elis Juliana, Hubert Booi and Tharcisio Pieters Kweirs are thus given the opportunity to reach an audience, which consists mainly of the establishment and from passers-by, or of their children to the schools that the authors visit such as the Marnix MULO and the Peter Stuyvesant College.
