From the introduction:
The history of Latin American women remains to be written, and this scholarly gap has only recently been acknowledged. (…) In the following work I have tried to partly fill this vacuum by presenting a preliminary bibliography on women in Cuba. This bibliography is limited to the socio-politico-economic aspects of the subject in the 20th century, particularly after 1959. Emphasizing the contemporary social sciences was not a deliberate choice but rather was due to the publications and materials available in the United States. Very little systematic work has been done on the subject for the first half of the 20th century and practically nothing prior to that. Surprisingly, in spite of the dedication of females to cultural activities, there are scanty publications on the cultural patterns, intellectual impact, or literary dimensions of Cuban women.
