Cosimo Brunetti was a Sienese priest, of a prominent Florentine family which traced his ancestry back through the thirteenth century to the scholar Brunetto Latini, a contemporary of Dante who published translations and a “Tresor” in the Northern French dialect, the langues d'oïl.
